Seven Wonders of the World

Here’s a thought provoking topic for discussion at the next family reunion or just around the dinner table.

Can you name the Seven Wonders of the World?  There are different lists, depending on if you do the Seven Ancient Wonders, the Seven Natural Wonders or a combination.

The Seven Ancient Wonders, with only the Pyramids surviving, were: The Great Pyramids of Giza, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Statue of Zeus at Olympia, The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, The Colossus of Rhodes, and The Lighthouse of Alexandria.

The present Seven Wonders of the World, as compiled by a group of students, are:

1.      Egypt’s Great Pyramids

2.      Taj Mahal

3.      Grand Canyon

4.      Panama Canal

5.      Empire State Building

6.      St. Peter’s Basilica

7.      China’s Great Wall

The challenge is to come up with your own entries.  One little girl came up with the following list:

1.      To see

2.      To hear

3.      To touch

4.      To taste

5.      To feel

6.      To laugh

7.      To love

So what’s on your list?  Remember, the simplest, the most ordinary and the most precious “things” are not really things at all.
