Romeo, Are You There?

Hello, is Romeo there? If you’re a Silver Fox male, you might actually be a ROMEO. No, you don’t need to have a Juliet or know any Shakespeare for this role! It’s interesting if you can dance with a rose between your teeth, but not required! If you are a retired older gentleman who likes to eat out or socialize with his peers, this group is waiting for you. ROMEO is the acronym for “Retired Old Men Eating Out”, a grassroots social club for men which has chapters springing up nationally. After the Silver Fox male retires, he tends to hang around the house, talking to his spouse or doing little fix-up chores. After a while, you may get a little bored as your wife goes about her daily routine. This is the time to find men of your own age to socialize with. Here’s where the Romeo group comes in. The guys meet once or twice a week for breakfast or lunch. There are no rules, no commitments, no dues, and no meeting agenda. Just informal discussions and fun. All men are welcome. To find a group, you might check www.romeoclub.org/or look under meeting notices, or organizations in the newspaper or senior sections. Check with senior centers or churches. If you don’t find a group, start your own. Put up a few notices, or take out a small ad. Your ad might say, “The Romeo Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out) is looking for new members. We meet at (state time) every (state day) at (state location). For more information, contact (your name and telephone number).” The rest will happen automatically, as men begin to gather. If it is time to gather to talk about men things, find ROMEO.
