Where Will We Go When We Retire?
There is lot more to the question, "where will we go when we retire," then it implies. A person needs to figure out if he will be able to take care of himself when he approaches age 80 or 90. Most do not have a retirement fund that sets them on easy street for their “Golden Years.”
So where will they go? Into their children’s home or to a retirement home? There are many nursing homes and there are group homes for the elderly. There is not a lot of choices that they can make at this point in time. If they go to a retirement home and the bills start to come, along with the large rent costs that most cannot afford because they are living on Social Security. The facility usually is full of residents and the staff is overworked and underpaid, with no degree or even training.
If the choice is their children’s homes, it is hard on the family that takes them in. Some are abusing their parents, like they themselves were when they were young. What can they do to fix this problem? Some do not even notice because of their health that they are getting abused each and every day. Americans in general do not care for the elderly as some of the 3rd world countries treasure them, rather than abusing them.
There are many caregivers who really care about the elderly and how they are treated. Being a caregiver in their home, alienates the caregiver who is use to living in different living situations, it switches the role and makes it where he or she is the one needing to fit in to a new life. This process is better due to the fact that he or she can adjust much faster than the elderly.
